Creativity and thoughtfulness
I had the privilege of meeting Sara in the Fall of 2016 when she was my instructor for the TESOL Overview course at Vancouver Community College. Over the course of 12 weeks I came to know her as an extremely accomplished educator with a wealth of varied experiences, allowing her to adapt to the needs of her students.
Coming to class each week was something I looked forward to because I knew that I would take away practical information and develop my skills as a teacher in an environment which was supportive and inclusive. Sara’s focus on building self-awareness through reflection and introspection helped me to realize the value of my own experiences and to apply them in a way which would benefit my teaching practice. Specifically, assignments and tasks were designed to draw out students’ personal strengths in a way which was pertinent to their goals, both as students and as future educators. I am grateful to Sara for the creativity and thoughtfulness that she put into her lessons because, ultimately, she modelled the type of teacher I aspire to become.
